To Know God &Make Him Known

Youth With A Mission is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world.

Discipleship Training School (DTS)

Become a part of this global movement by attending YWAM's Discipleship Training School or DTS for short.

YWAM's Discipleship Training School (DTS) is a life-changing five-month program that builds a solid foundation of personal growth and relationship with Jesus. It starts with twelve weeks of biblical teaching, real-life application, and ongoing discipleship, all geared towards helping you know God better at our YWAM Campus. Then you’ll take your growing love for Jesus and share it with others on an eight-week overseas mission trip.

First Part: To Know God

Encounter God’s love for you in deep, personal ways. Learn about your identity in Christ. Discover more of your purpose. Grow alongside others in our missionary community and create lifelong friendships. Gain confidence and real cross-cultural experience as you step out of your comfort zone and introduce others to the life-changing hope of who Jesus is.

We believe God created you with a purpose and part of that purpose is introducing others to the life-giving hope of who Jesus is. So get ready to pack your bags, head off to another country, be immersed in another culture, and have opportunities to share the gospel. We had teams this year in Thailand, Colombia, North Africa, Brazil, Vietnam, and Argentina!

Aspects of DTS

BIBLICAL TEACHINGS

We believe that scripture is God breathed and important for our relationship with Him. To know God is to know who he is and what he has done.

DISCIPLESHIP

During DTS you will have weekly one-on-one discipleship that takes you deep, rooting you in the truth of God’s Word and helping you grow in His love.

WORSHIP & PRAYER

Praise Him from the overflow of your relationship with God. We have dedicated time throughout the week to Worship Him

Second Part: Go Make Him Known

We believe God created you with a purpose and part of that purpose is introducing others to the life-giving hope of who Jesus is. So get ready to pack your bags, head off to another country, be immersed in another culture, and have opportunities to share the gospel. What is YWAM?

Known as YWAM (pronounced "WHY-wham"), we unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known.

Back when we began in 1960, our main focus was to get youth involved in missions. Today, we still focus on youth, and we also involve people aged 9 to 90. We currently have tens of thousands of staff (called "YWAMers") and we work in thousands of teams and locations.

One of the joys of participating in YWAM is to work with people from many nations. YWAM's staff come from nearly every country in the world, including places like Indonesia, Nepal, Mozambique, and Colombia.

YWAM's ministries cover every sphere of society, including ship-based medical care, performing arts teams, Bible training programs, business coaching, sports ministries, anti-trafficking work, and many more. YWAM Louisville is a part of the ministry.

Where Did YWAM Begin?

It all began with a vision. In June of 1956, Loren Cunningham (the founder of YWAM), spent a part of his summer break in Nassau, Bahamas touring with a singing group. One night after a busy day, Loren had an unusual experience. "I lay down on the bed," he recalled, "doubled the pillow under my head and opened my Bible, routinely asking God to speak into my mind. What happened next was far from routine. Suddenly, I was looking up at a map of the world. Only the map was alive, moving! I sat up. I shook my head, rubbed my eyes. It was a mental movie. I could see all the continents. Waves were crashing onto the shores. Each went onto a continent, then receded, then came up further until it covered the continent completely. I caught my breath. Then, as I watched, the scene changed. The waves became young people-kids my age and even younger-covering the continents. They were talking to people on the street corners and outside bars. They were going house to house. They were preaching. 'Was that really you, Lord?' I wondered, still staring at the wall, amazed. Young people-kids really-going out as missionaries! What an idea! And I thought 'Why did God give me this vision?'"
